One of the major issues that can be found within the 996/997 Turbo and GT models are the metal coolant pipes that lay under the intake manifold. The pipes are joined together using glue from the factory and are prone to failure at any given time. When the pipes decide that they want to fail, the problem is that they can result in a sudden and rapid loss of coolant which can be extremely dangerous. For this particular 911 Turbo, you can see in image 3 that the factory glue had failed, allowing the pipe to come out of the housing. When adding additional power to air cooled 911’s it can be common for the rockers to back out over time. In order for this 964 3.6 Turbo to handle the additional stress from the upgraded Garrett turbocharger, we installed the @turbokraft rocker lock kit along with a valve adjustment. Always a pleasure having a product of Hans Mezger in our facility, who (if you don’t know already) is one of the most renowned people in Porsche’s history for engineering highly successful engines for motorsport use. This 997.2 GT3 RS, which is equipped with the 3.8 liter Mezger engine, came to us to be squared away on fluids and regular maintenance such as brake pads and rotors. In addition, we removed the roll cage and harness modifications to return the car back to the original condition. Mirrorless… It’s astonishing to look back at automotive design before the 1980’s and examine how it has changed to accommodate modern day safety regulations. One of the items that has been affected over the decades has been the adoption and standardization of the passenger side view mirror. Prior to the 80’s, a passenger side view mirror was often offered as an optional add-on by dealerships and were seen as a luxury to have. Over time, this mirror has become standardized equipment by manufacturers due to the expansion of multi-lane roads (which began in the middle of the 20th century) and the growing size of the B and C pillars. Nowadays passenger side view mirrors are just a part of life, but we enjoy the symmetry that they add as well.
