Description

The Porsche 356 began its journey rooted in the modest origins of the Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle. Yet, by the time production of the 356 series concluded in 1965, Porsche had refined its sports car philosophy into a timeless formula, one that continues to influence the brand's contemporary offerings.

Blue Chip is proud to present this 1964 Porsche 356 C 1600 Coupe, now offered for sale and finished in rare Sky Blue over a rich Red leather interior. As one of the 4,744 Karmann-bodied coupes produced in the penultimate year of the 356's production, it benefits from significant mechanical advancements, including four-wheel disc brakes and a 1.6-liter air-cooled flat-four engine paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. This configuration delivers a spirited 75 horsepower at 5,000 rpm, offering a driving experience that remains lively and engaging, whether on the open road or the racetrack.

Sold new in 1964 from Metro Motors in Seattle, Washington, this example is matching numbers and remained under single family ownership from new until 2010. In 2011, while under the care of its second owner, a sympathetic restoration was initiated and included a repaint in factory correct Sky Blue, an interior reupholstery in correct Red Leather, a new transaxle, an engine rebuild, and a carburetor rebuild. The engine rebuild was performed by Restoration Services in Evergreen, CO, and the new transaxle was built and installed by renowned 356 transmission specialist, Vic Skirmants. Please note that the transaxle is not matching numbers; however, the engine is original and both deck lids are matching. In 2013, the battery boxes and the front pan were correctly drilled out and spot welded back in, and in 2018, the correct Zenith carburetors were rebuilt by 356 Carburetor Rescue.

Receipts from the restoration will accompany the sale of the vehicle, along with a Certificate of Authenticity, the Kardex, the original receipt of sale from Metro Motors, photos from the restoration, service records, and a tool kit.

Today, its restoration continues to shine, making it a standout example of this iconic model. This 1964 356 C 1600 is an exceptional opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike, and invites its next owner to experience firsthand the driving dynamics and design that laid the groundwork for Porsche's legendary status in the automotive world.
