Description

As the latest production-volume V12 flagship, the Ferrari 550 Maranello was a departure from the previous lineage when it was launched in 1996. Following the Testarossa, the 512TR, and then the 512M, which were all mid-engined, low-angle supercars, the 550 was designed as a front-engined grand tourer with a long front hood and a short, stout rear end. Sculpted by a wind tunnel and penned by Pininfarina, the 550 was low-slung and featured long, muscular lines that set the precedent for flagship Ferraris moving forward. Performance was handled by a naturally-aspirated, 5.5 liter V12 engine that was factory rated at 478 horsepower and 419 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph could be done in 4.4 seconds, and flat out, the 550 was good for a top speed of 199 mph.

Built from 1996 to 2002, production of the 550 Maranello was limited to just 3,083 units and is well defined by the era in which it was made. A balance of both new era technology and Ferrari heritage straddle the past and the present; it is the last volume-production flagship Ferrari to come standard with a six-speed manual transmission, while also the first to come standard with traction control. Its front-mounted V12 is a throwback to the legendary grand tourers of Ferrari’s history, such as the 250 GT, the 275 GTB, and the 365 GTB/4 Daytona, yet the 550 also paved the way for future GT cars such as the 575, the 599, and the F12 Berlinetta.

Now offered for sale, this 1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello is finished in striking Blu Tour de France over a tasteful Grigio leather interior. 18-inch five-spoke magnesium alloy wheels are finished in Silver and wear Michelin Super Sport tires that are dated 2022 in the front and 2023 in the rear. A recent service was performed in August of 2023 by Blue Chip Services and included a complete vehicle inspection, an engine oil service with an oil sample lab analysis, and a brake fluid flush.

Just 4,288 miles from new, this pristine 550 Maranello is a stunning example of a manually-shifted V12 Ferrari and will make an excellent addition to the collection of any discerning enthusiast.
