Description
This 1967 Austin Mini Mk I, a left-hand-drive model, underwent an extensive refurbishment from 2006 to 2007, with more than $80,000 invested in the process. Now finished in dark blue with a black sliding sunroof and complemented by red leather upholstery, it represents a thoughtful blend of original charm and performance upgrades.
Under the hood, the Mini is powered by a rebuilt 1,275cc inline-four engine, featuring a Cooper S-style camshaft, dual SU carburetors, and a stainless steel exhaust system. The transmission is a four-speed manual, equipped with the characteristic “magic wand” shifter. During the rebuild, an alternator conversion was completed, and front disc brakes were added along with finned rear drums, enhancing both reliability and stopping power.
The bodywork was addressed in key areas, including repairs to the right rear wheel well and door edges, before the car was repainted in its current blue. Notable exterior features include chrome bumpers, external door hinges, sliding side windows, and a quick-release mustache grille. Silver Minilite wheels, fitted with Yokohama Advan A-008 tires, provide a period-correct yet sporty appearance.
Inside, the cabin has been reupholstered in red leather by Guy’s Interior Restorations in Portland, Oregon. Gray carpets and black coco mats complement the interior, while details like the Moto-Lita John Cooper steering wheel, aluminum throttle pedal, and chrome roll bar add to the car’s vintage race-inspired feel. The central instrument cluster houses a Smiths 120-mph speedometer, a voltmeter, and additional gauges for oil pressure and water temperature, while a Smiths tachometer is positioned ahead of the driver. The odometer shows approximately 79k miles.
The suspension retains the original Hydrolastic setup, with new stainless steel lines and refinished suspension arms. The underside of the car includes a Mini-branded sump guard, and the transmission was resealed and fitted with a new clutch in 2006.
Included with the car are refurbishment records, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean title. The Heritage certificate notes the car’s original green-on-green color scheme and build details. With its blend of restoration work and tasteful upgrades, this 1967 Austin Mini offers a mix of classic character and enhanced drivability.
