Description

Introduced in 1978, the Porsche 911 SC quickly earned its place as a beloved variant of the iconic 911 lineage. With a revised 3.0-liter flat-six engine, the SC delivered robust power and torque lower in the rev range, offering an exhilarating yet accessible driving experience. This engine, noted for its reliability, marked a significant improvement over its predecessor, the 2.7-liter flat-six, and was paired with a fully galvanized body shell, ensuring the car’s longevity.

Automotive legend David E. Davis Jr. praised the 911 SC in Car & Driver’s March 1978 issue, highlighting the car’s exceptional build quality and driving dynamics. He remarked, “There is a hard-to-define ‘rightness’ about this car, inside and out. It’s tight, solid, and apparently very well put together. It fairly shouts quality. Driving it is an exercise in euphoria, a chance to sample something as different from conventional cars as turbo-props were from piston-driven aircraft.”

Despite Porsche’s initial plans to replace the 911 with the 928, the 911 SC’s popularity helped secure the 911’s future in Porsche’s lineup, leading to continued evolution and improvement of this iconic model. By 1983, the 911 SC was available in coupe, Targa, and for the first time, cabriolet body styles, broadening its appeal.

Now offered for sale, Blue Chip is proud to present this 1983 Porsche 911 SC coupe, finished in captivating Slate Blue Metallic over a Dark Blue Leather interior. With only 24,042 original miles, this example presents in near-pristine condition and features factory sport seats, original Fuchs wheels, documentation from new, and the original window sticker. All lights and systems are in working order, and the car is up to date on all services. The Carfax notes damage reported in 2003. Supporting documentation concludes that this report is due to a respray on the driver’s side rear fender, performed to fix rock chips in the paint and not caused by an accident or other incident. All original books, tools, and supporting documentation will be included with the sale of the car.

The 911 SC is often overlooked in favor of the earlier small-bumper 911s, but it stands out as a superb classic in its own right—virtually bulletproof if well maintained, and offering an ideal blend of practicality, style, and performance. This 911 SC Coupe, with its striking color combination and low mileage, represents a wonderful opportunity for any enthusiast or collector to experience the unmatched thrill of driving a classic Porsche.
