Description
Of all the generations of Porsche 911, the 993 is one of the most sought after and highly valued by Porsche collectors. The last of the air-cooled cars, the 993 is the final iteration and furthest evolution of what many would consider to be the ‘Classic 911’. As they aged, however, modern Porsches would eventually eclipse even the top trim levels of the 993, and many enthusiasts would have their hearts stolen by the blistering performance of the new water-cooled era. Some, however, were left wondering - what if Porsche never stopped making an air-cooled 911?
At Gunther Werks, a firm based in Huntington Beach, California, they looked to answer that question with a 911 of their own. Starting from a 993-generation coupe, the remastered Porsche 911 is their vision of what a modern, high performance, air-cooled car could be. Through this restoration, no stone is left unturned as Gunther Werks carefully disassembles the body and rebuilds it from the ground up. Copious amounts of carbon fiber is utilized to save weight, and is included in the front fenders, rear quarter panels, side skirts, roof, hood, front and rear bumpers, and rear ducktail spoiler. Each engine has been meticulously developed by Rothsport of Oregon and is built to produce over 430 brake horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. The original Getrag G50 6-speed transmission is rebuilt with custom gear ratios, and new Brembo GTR slotted disk brakes are fitted.
On the inside, you’ll discover that the cabin has received the same treatment. Carbon fiber backed bucket seats are trimmed in fine leathers and Alcantara, and the rear seats have been removed to display just a carbon fiber rear deck and a fire extinguisher. Carbon fiber door panels are trimmed with Alcantara and feature CNC machined billet door handles, and are matched by the carbon fiber dashboard. A leather wrapped Porsche Classic steering wheel with carbon fiber inserts sits ahead of reworked dials in classic black and white. Above your head, the headliner is trimmed in matching Alcantara, and at your feet, carbon fiber track mats sit below slotted foot pedals made from forged aluminum. A Porsche Classic radio is fitted to keep the interior period correct, and the ignition key has been reproduced in billet aluminum.
By any and all measures, the Gunther Werks 911 is the ultimate air-cooled Porsche. It is the unofficial top dog of the 993s. But to create something so special and so meticulous, limitations must be involved. Just 25 examples of Gunther Werks’ remastered 911 were ever produced - each one built to the exact specification of its discerning owner. In terms of rarity, that makes these 911s almost as rare - and arguably more unique - than Porsche legends such as the Le Mans homologated 911 GT1 Strassenversion. All sold before most of us even knew they existed, few Porsche enthusiasts will ever get to lay their eyes on a Gunther Werks car; only a small handful of individuals will ever have the opportunity to own one.
Now offered for sale, Blue Chip is exceptionally proud to present this 1995 Porsche 911 remastered by Gunther Werks, the Bianco Rosso commission and 1 of just 25 examples produced. Finished in a Bianco exterior over a Rosso and exposed carbon fiber interior, this example is equipped with Forged Aluminum 3 Piece wheels in the classic 5-Spoke Design and a carbon fiber ducktail rear spoiler. The 6-piston front and 4-piston rear Brembo brake calipers have been finished in Rosso, and are matched by silver side decals and Porsche lettering in Rosso. Dual, center-exit exhaust pipes protrude from the carbon fiber rear bumper, and silver Porsche lettering matches the decals on the sides. Inside the cabin, carbon fiber bucket seats are trimmed in Rosso Alcantara and Black leather. Exposed carbon fiber door panels feature a Rosso Alcantara windowsill and are complimented by a Rosso leather door pull. The Porsche Classic Radio is surrounded by a sea of Rosso Alcantara and sits directly below an exposed carbon fiber dashboard. Ahead of the driver, a Porsche Classic steering wheel is wrapped in fine Black leather with carbon fiber inserts and highlights the Black and White classic Porsche gauges.
Displaying just 2,380 miles since leaving the Gunther Werks facility, this Gunther Werks 911 is now available in Denver, Colorado and comes complete with three keys, a tool kit, manufacturer’s literature, and a clean Colorado title.
