To commemorate two decades of their iconic hot hatch, Volkswagen unveiled the 2003 GTI 20th Anniversary Edition at the Chicago Auto Show, a tribute to the original Rabbit GTI introduced in 1983. This special-edition model captured the essence of the classic with modern performance and styling cues that echoed its legendary predecessor. Distinctive red "GTI" badging on the front grille and rear hatch, a polished-metal Rabbit logo, and black-surround headlights set this edition apart, while performance touches like a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels, and larger disc brakes made it a true driver’s machine. Powered by VW’s 1.8-liter turbocharged engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission, the GTI 20th Anniversary Edition delivered 180 horsepower, ensuring it lived up to its “pocket rocket” heritage.
