2022 Ferrari SF90 Spider

The 2022 Ferrari SF90 Spider is the convertible version of the SF90 Stradale, created to mark Scuderia Ferrari’s 90th anniversary. While the SF90 name is shared with Ferrari’s Formula One car, the road-going version is centered around a high-performance hybrid powertrain that blends traditional Ferrari engineering with cutting-edge technology.

At the heart of the SF90 Spider is a 769-horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 engine, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This is paired with three electric motors—two located at the front and one at the rear—adding an additional 217 horsepower for a total output of 986 horsepower. The hybrid system allows for short bursts of electric-only driving, up to 16 miles, but its primary function is to enhance the car’s overall performance. The SF90 Spider can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, with a top speed of 211 mph.

In terms of handling and dynamics, the SF90 Spider incorporates several advanced systems. The two front electric motors enable torque vectoring, enhancing cornering agility, while F1 Traction Control, E-Diff, and Electronic Side Slip Control work together to ensure stability and precision. Ferrari’s "eManettino" drive-mode selector, mounted on the steering wheel, not only controls driving dynamics but also manages the hybrid-electric system, allowing the driver to toggle between performance and electric modes seamlessly.

The design of the SF90 Spider mirrors the aerodynamic efficiency of the Stradale, with active aerodynamic elements that manage airflow to reduce drag and increase downforce. The retractable hardtop is made of lightweight aluminum, 88 pounds lighter than traditional designs, and can be deployed in 14 seconds. When stowed, it fits compactly beneath the rear tonneau, preserving the sleek lines of the car.
